A Pakistani schoolgirl, center, writes on the blackboard while her teacher, Warda Arshad, 20, right, checks the homework of another student in a makeshift school set in a clay house, partially used as a cowshed, in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan, Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Threats from militant groups is one of many obstacles Pakistani girls and teachers face in getting and providing an education. Others include rampant poverty, harassment and the government's failure to prioritize education spending. Both sexes have suffered from the lack of funding, but girls, who have lower rates of literacy and school attendance, are in a particularly perilous position. (AP Photo/Muhammed Muheisen)

The school runs a parallel tuition programme to the national curriculum, which enables the otherwise illiterate shepherds to acquire literacy through the two to three hour classes run by volunteer teacher
