A Kurdish fighter, known as a Peshmerga, lies underneath a blanket, overlooking the town of Sinjar, Iraq. Peshmerga forces, supported by U.S. airstrikes and ground spotters, battled Friday to seize Sinjar from Islamic State militants who have controlled it for more than a year.
